Description
The Suhr ML Classic Neck pickup is the vintage-flavored sibling in Suhr’s flagship single-coil lineup, developed by John Suhr alongside LA session great Mike Landau. Rather than chasing one archetype, they pulled apart a stack of vintage pickups from Landau’s personal collection, kept only the winners, and distilled what actually made them special into a single, repeatable design.
What you get in the neck position is that classic single-coil chime without the thin, brittle edge that plagues so many vintage-style units. Highs stay detailed and airy, lows come through big and controlled, and the midrange has enough body to keep sparkling rhythm parts from sounding hollow. It’s equally at home under a clean jazzy comp or pushed into a cranked amp for fat, singing leads – the kind of versatility that makes a neck pickup earn its keep on every song of the set, not just the ballads.
The ML series is calibrated per position rather than treated as one generic pickup wound three times – the neck and middle share a DC resistance spec distinct from the bridge, and the middle pickup gets reverse winding and reverse polarity for authentic hum-cancelling when combined with either neighbor. This neck unit reads 6.0K ohms DC resistance, sitting on the lower-output, more vintage-correct end of the ML family (the Standard version runs slightly hotter for players who want more push).
