Suhr’s ML Standard pickups take the classic single-coil formula and quietly fix its biggest flaw: uneven string-to-string output on today’s flatter fretboard radiuses. Instead of the traditional straight-line staggered poles, the ML uses a modified staggered pole piece layout that spreads the magnetic field more evenly across the strings, so modern gauges and flatter necks don’t leave your B string buried or your G string screaming.
Wired for the middle position with reverse-wound, reverse-polarity (RW/RP) construction, this ML cancels hum when paired with its neighboring pickups in positions 1-2 or 2-3, all while keeping the tonal character intact – tight, controlled lows, a midrange that stays present without getting boxy, and a top end that sparkles rather than spikes. It’s the vintage snap you want with the low-end focus and quiet operation that vintage-spec pickups often lack.
