Description
The ML neck pickup is the result of John Suhr digging deep into a killer stash of vintage single-coils belonging to renowned session player and solo artist ML, then distilling what actually made the great ones great. The result isn’t a straight vintage clone — it’s a pickup that keeps the airy top-end shimmer and articulate lows of the best old-school units while adding the fullness and touch-sensitivity modern players expect. Dig in for fat, singing leads and it holds together; back off for glassy rhythm tones and it stays clear and detailed. Either way, you’re getting the upper tier of single-coil tone, not an average sample.
Every ML pickup is calibrated per position rather than treated as a generic single-coil. That means neck, middle, and bridge units are wound differently to suit where they sit in the guitar, and the middle pickup uses reverse winding and reverse polarity for genuine hum-cancelling when paired with neck or bridge.
This listing is for the ML in Standard voicing, which runs slightly hotter than the Classic option for a bit more push and grind, while still keeping that signature vintage-informed clarity.
- DC Resistance (Standard): 6.4K ohms — neck/middle position
- Reverse-wound/reverse-polarity middle pickup for true hum cancellation
- Parchment cover
- Position-specific calibration for balanced pickup-to-pickup response
Drop it into a Strat-style build or swap out a tired stock neck pickup — the ML Standard neck is built to bring vintage soul with contemporary punch.
