Description
The SSH is one of Suhr’s go-to bridge humbuckers for players who want more than just “vintage voiced” or “high output” — they want both, at once. It’s tuned to hit your tube amp’s front end with enough push to break up naturally, while still holding onto the open, airy character that separates a great humbucker from a generic one. Pick attack stays crisp, mids stay forward, and the low end doesn’t turn to mud when you dig in.
Suhr builds these to the standard set by John Suhr and Steve Smith at JS Technologies — the same team responsible for guitars played by Scott Henderson, Guthrie Govan, Reb Beach, Doug Aldrich, and Kirk Fletcher, among others. That same obsession with detail carries over into the pickups: an Alnico V magnet for warmth with grit, a 4-conductor lead for coil-split and series/parallel wiring flexibility, and premium winding to keep output consistent and noise low.
This particular version comes in a Zebra cover with 50mm Gibson-style pole spacing, making it a straightforward drop-in for guitars already routed for that string spacing.
