Description
The SSV is Suhr’s answer to guitarists chasing the raw, uncompressed growl of a great vintage humbucker without the artificial squash that plagues so many modern high-output pickups. Built on three decades of John Suhr’s pickup research, it’s designed to open up under pick attack rather than choke, giving you a wide dynamic window from clean shimmer to raunchy overdrive.
Where its sibling the DSV leans toward smoother, rounder highs, the SSV is the one to grab when you want more edge – more honk, more snarl, more attitude in the upper mids. It’s the bridge pickup for players who want their humbucker to talk back, whether you’re carving out blues phrasing or digging in for classic rock crunch.
Wound and built by hand, the SSV uses an Alnico V magnet for that push-pull vintage character, with 4-conductor hookup wire so you’ve got full flexibility for coil-splitting and series/parallel wiring setups. This particular version is finished in black and sized for standard Gibson-style 50mm bridge spacing – a drop-in upgrade for most humbucker-equipped guitars using that spec.
Suhr has built its reputation on exactly this kind of detail-obsessed craftsmanship, trusted by players spanning jazz, blues, and hard rock. The SSV bridge pickup brings that same philosophy to your guitar’s business end.
