The SSV neck pickup is Suhr’s answer to players who want the raw, dynamic feel of a great vintage humbucker rather than the squashed, over-wound sound so many modern pickups default to. Where the DSV leans smoother on top, the SSV pushes harder into that midrange growl and edge-of-breakup snarl that made classic PAF-style tones so addictive in the first place — it responds to pick attack and volume knob tricks the way a real vintage pickup should, with a wide dynamic window instead of compressed, one-dimensional output.
This is the product of three decades of John Suhr’s pickup research, wound and built with the kind of attention to detail that lets it sit convincingly alongside — or ahead of — genuine vintage originals. In the neck position specifically, it’s DC resistance comes in at 8K ohms, wired with 4-conductor cable so you’ve got full flexibility for coil-splitting, series/parallel switching, or whatever wiring scheme your build calls for.
