Description
Thornbuckers exist because Pete Thorn got tired of humbucker sets that sounded great through a cranked amp but turned to sludge the moment you backed off the gain or rolled into the neck pickup. He brought that frustration to Suhr with a specific challenge: build a humbucker that keeps the clarity and dynamic response of a genuinely great vintage “patent applied for” pickup, without the muddiness that plagues so many modern copies.
Suhr’s team spent serious time chasing that goal, testing combinations of magnets, wire types, covers, and winding specs, then listening critically to how each prototype behaved across playing styles. What they landed on is a pickup that translates the touch-sensitivity and openness of a great 50s-style PAF into something built to Suhr’s exacting modern standards – reliable output-to-output, coil-to-coil, and unit-to-unit.
This listing is the neck-position Thornbucker in Zebra. It’s wound with plain enamel wire around an Alnico V magnet, reading 7.3KΩ DC resistance, and wired with 4-conductor hookup wire so you’ve got full flexibility for coil-splitting or series/parallel switching in your wiring scheme.
Neck Thornbucker specs:
- Magnet: Alnico V
- DC Resistance: 7.3KΩ
- Wire: Plain Enamel
- Hook Up Wire: 4-Conductor
Also available in Black, White, Parchment, Reversed Zebra, and White finishes, so you can match or contrast with your bridge pickup and hardware.
