Description
The Thornbucker II bridge pickup is Pete Thorn’s next chapter on his original Suhr signature design, built around the tones he’s always chased: a hot PAF slammed into a cranked plexi. Suhr took the familiar Thornbucker foundation and added a few extra turns on the coil, landing the DC resistance around 9.1kΩ, then swapped in an Alnico II magnet in place of the original’s magnet choice. That combination softens and rounds off the high end just enough to sit beautifully in front of a saturated British-voiced amp, without losing the openness and clarity that made the first Thornbucker a favorite.
Expect punchier midrange and a fuller, wider frequency spread than the original wind, while high notes retain body and sweetness rather than turning brittle or harsh under gain. It’s the same warmth-and-clarity formula, just dialed up with more power and presence — the pickup found in Pete’s Signature Standard HSS build, now available on its own for bridge position installs.
