Pete’s reference point was always that classic hot-PAF-into-a-cranked-plexi sound — the kind of tone guitarists chased in the 70s and 80s to get sustain and grit without sacrificing musicality. The extra coil turns give this pickup more punch and a fuller body across the frequency spectrum, while the Alnico II keeps the highs rounded rather than harsh. That combination means single notes and chords stay open and articulate even under heavy gain, with warmth and sweetness balancing out the added power.
This is the same pickup found in Pete Thorn’s Signature Standard HSS, now available on its own for anyone rewiring a bridge position and chasing that specific blend of clarity and British-amp aggression.
