Description
Before pedalboards took over, tone came from fingers, tubes, and a well-wound single coil pushed hard through a stack. The V70 bridge pickup is Suhr’s answer to that era, built for players chasing the singing sustain and gritty bite that defined 70s Blues-Rock crossover playing.
Each V70 is hand-built using Suhr’s proprietary winding process, with plain enamel wire wound around specially formulated Alnico V magnets and mounted on vintage-correct gray fiber bottoms. A modified staggered pole piece layout keeps the magnetic field even across the strings, which matters a lot when you’re bending three steps into a solo and don’t want one string falling flat or hot. It also means the pickup plays nicely with the flatter fretboard radii found on a lot of modern guitars.
Tonally, expect tight low-end punch, a lively midrange that responds to pick attack, and top-end shimmer that stays smooth rather than brittle. Dig in and it snarls a little; back off and it cleans up with real clarity.
