Description
If your ears are chasing the golden era of 70’s rock and blues — think overdriven Marshalls, marathon bends, and solos that sang instead of screamed — the V70 middle pickup is built for exactly that pursuit. It’s the middle position piece from Suhr’s V70 set, finished here in a black cover, and it’s designed to slot into the RW/RP wiring scheme that keeps your middle position hum-cancelling against the neck and bridge.
Each V70 is hand-built on Suhr’s proprietary winder rather than mass-produced, and the construction reflects a real vintage-inspired approach: plain enamel magnet wire, gray vintage-correct fiber baseplates, and Teflon-coated hookup wire for durability under heat. The Alnico V magnets are specially formulated for the era-correct pull, and Suhr staggers the pole pieces in a modified pattern that evens out the magnetic field across the strings — a detail that matters a lot once you start leaning into big multi-step bends. It also means these pickups play nicely with today’s flatter fingerboard radii, not just vintage-spec necks.
Tonally, expect a lively, touch-sensitive middle pickup: lows stay tight and snappy rather than boomy, highs shimmer and cut without turning brittle or ice-picky. It reads dynamics well, so pick attack and volume swells actually translate through the amp.
