Description
Some pickups chase clarity, others chase output. The V70 chases a decade — that stretch of the 1970s when blues and hard rock were colliding head-on and every guitarist seemed to be bending strings into the stratosphere. This is the neck version, built to sit under your fingers with tight, snappy lows and a top end that shimmers instead of stabs.
Each V70 is hand-built in-house using Suhr’s proprietary winding process, so tolerances stay tight from unit to unit. Under the parchment cover you’ll find plain enamel wire wound around specially formulated Alnico V magnets, seated in vintage-correct gray fiber bottoms. The pole pieces use a modified staggered layout that keeps the magnetic field even across all six strings — a real advantage for multi-step bends and for guitars with today’s flatter fingerboard radii, where old-school staggering can fall out of balance.
Play it and you’ll notice how touch-sensitive it is; dig in and it pushes back with grit, back off and it cleans up without going thin. That dynamic range, paired with a balanced low-to-high response, is what made this style of single coil the backbone of so many iconic riffs and solos.
