Description
If your ear is chasing that unmistakable 70’s single coil snarl — the sound that fueled a decade of blues-rock riffing and marathon guitar solos — the Suhr V70 neck pickup is built for exactly that mission. This is a pickup that rewards dynamics: dig in and it barks, back off and it cleans up with real touch sensitivity, tracking every nuance from a whisper-quiet passage to a full-bore bend.
Each V70 is hand-built in-house using Suhr’s proprietary winding process, paired with plain enamel wire and specially formulated Alnico V magnets for that push-and-pull warmth vintage single coils are known for. The vintage-correct gray fiber bottoms keep the look period-honest, while Teflon hook-up wire adds durability under the hood.
What sets the V70 apart is its modified staggered pole piece layout, engineered to create a more even magnetic field across the strings. That means multi-step bends and soaring lead lines stay balanced and full rather than falling off on certain strings — and it’s a layout that plays especially nicely with today’s flatter fretboard radii.
Tonally, expect tight, snappy low end and shimmering top end that cuts through a mix without ever turning brittle or ice-picky. It’s a pickup that flatters aggressive blues-rock phrasing just as much as it does cleaner, more articulate playing.
