Description
Van Zandt pickups come from one man’s decades of hands-on winding — W.L. Van Zandt started fixing and rewinding pickups around Dallas/Ft. Worth back in the 1960s, long before he turned it into a company. That old-school, by-ear approach is still how every coil gets built today, straight from J.D.’s hands in Texas.
The Rock Model is voiced for players who want their Strat to snarl. It’s got an aggressive top-end push and natural growl that reacts well to an overdriven amp or a distortion pedal in front of it — think rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock tones rather than glassy clean chime.
This particular unit is wound reverse/reverse polarity (RWRP) for the middle position. That means:
- Positions 2 and 4 on a standard 5-way switch become genuinely hum-cancelling, which matters a lot under fluorescent or neon lighting.
- You can coil-split those middle-combination positions for extra tonal options.
- It opens the door to mixing pickup character across the guitar — pair a warmer Blues-voiced unit up front and in the middle with this Rock pickup in the bridge, and you get two distinct guitars in one.
Pro Audio Land is an authorized Van Zandt dealer, so every pickup we ship is new and factory-fresh.
