Description
W.L. Van Zandt didn’t start out building pickups for a living — he was a machinist by trade and a country picker by night, rewinding magnets for buddies around Dallas/Ft. Worth back in the 1960s. Word got around, and what began as favors for friends turned into a full-blown pickup business built entirely on reputation. This bridge pickup is the one he kept coming back to.
The True Vintage Flat Pole Bridge is W.L.’s own benchmark for what a Telecaster should sound like — he was a 50s Tele man through and through, and this pickup is his attempt to bottle that era’s snap and bite, then push it just a little further for more drive and presence.
- Voiced to recreate the classic tone of late-50s/early-60s Telecasters
- Pairs well with a mellower neck pickup — blended in the middle position, you get bright top-end from the bridge and warm bottom from the neck
- Reportedly W.L.’s personal favorite among everything he ever wound
- Delivers that vintage character with noticeably more output and grit than a stock-era original
- At home in country, blues, and rockabilly settings — anywhere twang needs a little muscle behind it
If you want the Tele bridge tone that built honky-tonk and rockabilly records, straight from a builder who lived that sound before he ever wound a coil for it, this is the pickup to drop in.
