Description
Before Van Zandt was a company, it was just W.L. Van Zandt fixing pickups out of his shop in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, going back to the early 1960s. A machinist by trade and a country guitarist by night since the 1950s, he started rewinding magnets for buddies and bandmates. Word got around, and that side hustle grew into one of the most respected names in vintage-voiced pickups. Every Van Zandt pickup that leaves Pro Audio Land still comes straight from the hands that wind them in Texas.
This is the True Vintage middle position pickup, wound reverse wound/reverse polarity so it plays nice with your neck or bridge pickup, cancelling hum in those classic in-between switch positions without dulling the tone. It’s chasing the sound of an early-to-mid ’60s Strat middle pickup: airy, slightly bright, with just enough push in the midrange to keep chords from sounding thin. It’s reportedly W.L.’s own favorite among the Strat pickups he builds, which says something.
- Faithful recreation of a 50s-to-early-60s Stratocaster middle pickup tone
- Slightly bright voicing with present mid-tones
- Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity for hum cancellation in mixed positions
- Middle position pickup, built for Stratocaster
- Well suited to country, blues, jazz, and rockabilly playing
If you want that quacky, vocal in-between tone without the 60-cycle buzz, this is the pickup that does it the old-fashioned way.
