What sets this one apart from a generic single coil is the magnetic polarity option. Bartolini winds the 3X in both North Up (N) and South Up (S) versions specifically so you can build a hum-cancelling set. Since a lone single coil will always pick up 60-cycle hum, pairing polarities across your three pickups is the trick to quieting things down without losing that open, airy single-coil tone. This is the South (S) version, meant to be combined into either of these standard triple configurations:

- South / North / South
Get the order right and you’ll notice the hum drop out noticeably in the middle positions, while each pickup still sounds like itself soloed.
