Description
Built specifically for 5-string Fender Jazz Bass® platforms, the 59J1-L/S pairs a ‘long’ bridge pickup with a ‘short’ neck pickup — matching the original J-Bass geometry rather than forcing two identical shapes into a body that was never designed for them. That distinction matters more than most players realize: the neck cavity on a real J-Bass measures 3-5/8″ while the bridge cavity runs 3-3/4″, and getting the wrong length in the wrong slot means a sloppy fit and compromised tone.
Each pickup uses Bartolini’s dual in-line hum-cancelling coil design, so you get the classic scooped J-Bass voice without the 60-cycle hum that plagues single-coil designs. Expect strong low end, present low mids, and the kind of depth that lets a 5-string’s low B actually sit in the mix instead of turning to mud.
These are part of Bartolini’s Original Series — fully passive, no preamp required — and each unit is epoxy-potted to kill microphonics and unwanted feedback, so they hold up under stage volume and heavy-handed slap technique alike.
- 5-string Fender Jazz Bass replacement set
- Standard J Bass shape — ‘long’ bridge / ‘short’ neck pairing
- Dual in-line hum-cancelling coils
- Passive, epoxy-cast construction
- Width: 0.73″ / 18.42mm (ears not included)
- Tone: deep, strong lows, low mids
Before ordering, measure your existing pickups — some 5-string builds use two long (bridge-length) pickups instead, which requires Bartolini’s dedicated ‘LN’ long-neck variant rather than this L/S set.
