Description
Built as a direct replacement for the standard 5-string Jazz Bass, the 59J1-S/SB set pairs a short neck pickup with a standard bridge pickup to match Fender’s original J-Bass footprint exactly. Bartolini’s Original Series design keeps things passive and straightforward, so you get all the tonal character of a classic J-Bass setup without needing extra electronics.
Tonally, this set leans into deep lows and a pronounced low-mid punch rather than a scooped or bright voice. It’s the sound players reach for when they want the bass to sit thick and present in a mix, with plenty of low-end authority backing up the growl in the mids.
Each pickup uses a dual in-line coil arrangement for genuine hum cancellation, so you can dig in without worrying about 60-cycle buzz creeping into your signal. The coils are epoxy-potted as well, which locks everything down mechanically to kill microphonics and unwanted feedback — useful if you play at volume or run any kind of drive/compression on your bass tone.
Fit note: on a real J-Bass, the neck and bridge pickups are actually different lengths — 3-5/8″ at the neck versus 3-3/4″ at the bridge — and this set follows that spec (short neck, standard/long bridge). If your bass instead uses two long pickups, you’ll want the LN (long neck) version instead; don’t drop a bridge pickup into a neck slot expecting it to fit. Measure your existing pickups before ordering to be sure.
