Description
The Bartolini 59S72-L brings the respected Classic Bass (CB) design to 5-string J Bass builds, dropping into the bridge position with the extended 3-3/4″ “long” body length. If you’ve played Bartolini’s Classic Bass pickups before, you know the reputation: deep, authoritative lows and low-mids that luthiers and working bassists keep coming back to.
Inside, you get a dual in-line, hum-cancelling coil arrangement — two coils stacked in line rather than side by side, which keeps noise out while preserving the tight, focused character these pickups are known for. The whole assembly is epoxy-potted, so microphonic squeal and unwanted feedback are kept firmly in check even at higher gain or stage volume.
What sets the Classic Bass series apart from a lot of vintage-style J pickups is frequency range. Rather than the slightly boxed-in top end you get from some traditional designs, these open up with more air and clarity on the high end, while keeping the low-end weight and low-mid growl intact. The result is a pickup that sits well in a mix without needing to be scooped or EQ’d into submission.
One important fitment note: original Fender J-Bass pickups aren’t symmetrical in length. The neck pickup measures 3-5/8″, the bridge pickup 3-3/4″. Some modern builds use two long (bridge-length) pickups instead — if yours does, you’ll want the matching “LN” long-neck version for that position, not a standard bridge unit. Always double-check your existing pickup’s physical dimensions before ordering to guarantee a drop-in fit.
