The 9J1 L/S is Bartolini’s take on the classic Fender Jazz Bass® pickup layout, sized to match the original spec: a ‘long’ bridge pickup and a ‘short’ neck pickup, correctly proportioned rather than a matched pair of identical units. That size difference isn’t cosmetic — it’s part of why the standard J Bass has its signature split personality between positions, and this set is built to preserve it.
Tonally, these are known for going deep. Expect strong low end and a rounded low-mid push rather than a scooped or hi-fi voicing, which is part of why they’ve earned a loyal following among players and repair techs who want a drop-in upgrade that still sounds like a Jazz Bass, just more of it. Bartolini’s dual in-line coil design gives you hum-cancelling performance without straying from the vintage-style single-coil-per-side look.
These belong to Bartolini’s Original Series — fully passive, no preamp required, so they’ll work in any J-style wiring setup you already have. Each pickup is epoxy-potted to kill microphonics and unwanted feedback, which matters if you dig in hard or play at volume.
