Description
Delano’s JC series was designed as a drop-in retrofit for standard Jazz Bass-style routings, built on the familiar four-string shell so it slots into any bass with a comparable pickup cavity. This JC4 AL is the alnico single-coil bridge unit from that series – a pickup that started life as a study of vintage JB examples spanning 1960 through 1977.
Rather than cloning one specific era, Delano’s engineers pulled the best traits from both ends of that timeline. You get the woody low-mid growl and warm, articulate midrange that early sixties pickups are prized for, merged with the funkier ‘twang’ that showed up in some of the better seventies units. On top of that blend, they dialed in a touch more low-end depth and top-end sparkle, giving the JC4 AL a bit more sheen than a strict vintage reissue.
The result is a single coil that covers a lot of ground – old-school R&B warmth on one end, aggressive funk slap-and-pop tone on the other, without losing balance in between.
