DiMarzio built the PAF 36th Anniversary Bridge to chase down every good quality of a real vintage PAF at once, rather than settling for one flavor. Larry DiMarzio’s own 1959 Les Paul served as the reference point, and what stood out wasn’t just the pickups themselves but how the whole guitar worked together — including a surprisingly weak magnetic field that let the strings ring out longer while keeping the attack tight and articulate. DiMarzio replicated that same low-pull field here, so notes bloom and sustain instead of choking off under the poles.

This is the hotter of the two 36th Anniversary voicings, built for bridge duty on set-neck 24¾” scale guitars but equally at home in trem-loaded bolt-ons that need extra push. Split it via the 4-conductor wiring and you get a genuinely bright, useful single-coil tone — not the thin, sterile quack some splits give you. Pair it with a Virtual PAF or Virtual Hot PAF neck and you’re covering serious ground from clean sparkle to pick-driven grit.
