Description
Don’t let the classic Strat® footprint fool you. Underneath that familiar single-coil shape, the DiMarzio SDS-1 is chasing a completely different tone — the punch, gain, and warmth of a vintage soapbar pickup, not a bright and glassy single-coil.
- Adjustable pole pieces with reduced magnetic pull, so you can crank them closer to the strings and push output higher without choking string vibration
- Tamed highs and deeper low end than a typical single-coil, for a rounder, darker voice
- Ceramic bar magnet driving big steel pole pieces and a spacer bar, giving it the feel and response of an Alnico soapbar despite the ceramic power source
- High output for a single-coil, yet noticeably less string pull than standard rod-magnet pickups
If your bridge pickup sounds thin, brittle, or unable to shove your amp into that sweet overdriven zone, the SDS-1 is built to fix exactly that. It’s been doing this job since 1978, and it’s still a go-to swap for players who want soapbar character without ripping apart a Strat® pickguard’s routing.
Pair it with a True Velvet™ in the neck for a sparkly contrast, or run a True Velvet™ and FS-1™ combo for a well-rounded three-way tonal palette.
