Description
The Model One started life as a drop-in replacement for Gibson EB-series neck pickups, but bassists quickly found a second calling for it: as one half of a woofer/tweeter setup. Pair it with a Split P, DiMarzio Model P, or DiMarzio Model J pickup, and you’ve got two distinct sonic personalities living under one bass, with full control over how much of each you blend in.
Route the Model One into a rig with an 18-inch cabinet while your other pickup feeds your standard gear, and you land somewhere near the massive, earth-shaking low end and transparent top that Billy Sheehan made famous. It’s a setup that rewards experimentation, not a one-trick tone.
On its own, expect a warm, full voice that stays clear even when you dig in — no mud, no flub. If you want more high-end shimmer, swap in 500K pots. Curious players can also rewire the coils from series to parallel: you’ll lose a bit of output, but the midrange blooms and takes on a more open, almost acoustic character.
