Description
The Tone Zone earned its reputation by dodging the classic trap of high-output humbuckers: that thin, angry buzz that shows up when you dig in hard. This one doesn’t do that. Dig in and you get serious power and push; back off and the pickup cleans up more than you’d expect from something this hot. It’s a dynamic range trick that a lot of “hot” pickups simply don’t offer.
Where it really separates itself is in the low end. Bass and low-mid response are pushed forward, giving the whole pickup a bigger, more physical sound — single notes up high still have body and depth, and full chords come across huge rather than compressed. DiMarzio’s patented dual-resonance coil design is doing the work here, pulling extra overtones out of a pickup that otherwise reads as fat and dense on paper.
This particular version is F-spaced and wears a black metal cover, built with a 4-conductor lead so you can wire it for coil-splitting — flip it to single-coil mode and it holds up as a genuinely usable single-coil tone, not just a novelty switch position. Alnico 5 magnet, 17.31 kOhm resistance.
- Recommended for the bridge position in solid body guitars
- 4-conductor wiring for full switching flexibility (series, parallel, split)
- Alnico 5 magnet
- 17.31 kOhm resistance
- F-spaced for bridges with wider string spacing
- Black metal cover
Pairs especially well with an Air Norton, PAF Joe, or PAF Pro in the neck if you’re building out a full set.
