Plenty of single-coils can do clean and bright. Getting the top strings to stay sweet past the 12th fret without turning glassy or thin is the harder trick, and that’s exactly what the True Velvet Middle was built to solve. DiMarzio tuned the coil to a specific frequency window – bright, but never piercing – and paired it with a magnet stagger tailored for even string-to-string balance, so full chords come through with real clarity instead of mush.
This is DiMarzio’s refinement of the Blue Velvet design, dialed in to zero in on the frequency “sweet spot” that made the best vintage single-coils so versatile – clean enough for country picking, gritty enough for Texas blues. The Middle version shares specs with the True Velvet Neck model but runs reverse polarity, so when you drop it into position 2 or 4 alongside a standard-polarity neck or bridge pickup, the hum cancels out. For the technically curious: polarity here is south up.
Comes standard with hand-ground magnets and vintage-style cloth-covered wire, finished in white to match your pickguard.
