DiMarzio shrank the beloved Air Norton down to Strat dimensions without losing what made it great. The Air Norton S carries over that warm, evenly balanced tone and unique harmonic character, just packaged to drop into single-coil routing. It skips the actual air gap between magnet and pole pieces that gave the original Airbucker its name, but the output, feel, and voice are close enough that DiMarzio kept the name intact.
Where the full-size Air Norton earned its reputation in the neck slot of trem-loaded guitars for progressive players, the S version pulls double duty. It’s equally at home in the bridge for rock work, thanks to a medium output level and enough harmonic bite to keep single-note runs articulate and chords defined.
Looking to build out a full set? DiMarzio suggests pairing it in the neck with a Tone Zone S or Super Distortion S in the bridge, or flipping it to the bridge alongside a Pro Track or The Chopper in the neck. For the middle position, a Cruiser or Fast Track 1 adds brighter texture to positions 2, 3, and 4 with either combo.
