Description
Think of The Chopper as the Fast Track 1 after a few extra reps — same DNA, more muscle. DiMarzio shifted the power balance toward the midrange and low end, giving this single-coil-sized humbucker a bigger, meatier voice with real crunch on tap. It’s built for players who want single-coil dimensions but refuse to settle for single-coil output.
Under the hood, it’s the same twin-blade, side-by-side coil design found in the Fast Track 1. That means the blades run the full width of the string spacing, so there’s no hunting for magnet pole alignment and no worrying about string pull throwing off your tuning stability or sustain — a common headache with vintage-style polepiece pickups, especially if you like to bend or use non-standard string spacing.
DiMarzio originally engineered The Chopper as a bridge pickup, designed to pair naturally with The Cruiser and the Fast Track 1 in a full HSS-style or triple-single-coil layout, rounding out a set with plenty of bite up top. But don’t box it into one role: drop it into the neck position alongside a hot humbucker in the bridge, and it holds its own instead of sounding thin or washed out by comparison.
- Crème cover finish
- Twin-blade, side-by-side coil construction
- Higher output focused in mids and lows for added crunch
- Designed originally as a bridge pickup, also works well in the neck
- Direct replacement size for single-coil routes
