Description
The Tone Zone S takes everything players love about the full-size Tone Zone humbucker and shrinks it down to fit a single-coil slot, without watering down the attitude. DiMarzio didn’t just scale the numbers down — they re-engineered the voice, tuning it specifically for the sonic quirks of a rail-sized bobbin. The result is a pickup that leans on the same dual-resonance design behind the original for those rich, singing harmonics, but with output and clarity built around Strat-scale expectations.
Because it’s most likely landing in that classic slanted bridge position, DiMarzio compensated on purpose: highs get a touch of warmth so they don’t turn brittle, and the low end gets a slight lift in brightness so it doesn’t turn to mud. It’s a deliberate mismatch of specs versus feel — the full-size Tone Zone’s numbers won’t line up with this one, and that’s by design. They chased the sound, not the spec sheet.
4-conductor wiring means you’re not locked into one mode — run it as a full humbucker in parallel, or split the coil for single-coil quack when you want it. It’s a natural partner for Pro Track, The Chopper, or Fast Track 1 if you’re building out a mixed set.
