Description
Shrinking a full-size humbucker down to Strat dimensions usually means losing everything that made the original great. DiMarzio took a different approach with the Tone Zone S: rather than chase matching numbers, they voiced this rail-style pickup to capture the actual feel of the classic Tone Zone — that thick low-mid growl and the same patented dual-resonance circuitry that gives it its harmonic bite.
Because most players drop this into a slanted bridge position, DiMarzio compensated in the tuning: highs are rounded off slightly and the low end gets a touch more sparkle, so it doesn’t turn muddy or harsh sitting at that angle. The result reads as a genuine Tone Zone character rather than a scaled-down imitation.
4-conductor wiring means you’re not locked into one mode — run it as a full humbucker for maximum push, or split the coil for a leaner, more vintage-flavored voice when you want it. It plays well in a mixed set too, pairing naturally with the Pro Track, The Chopper, or Fast Track 1 in the neck/middle slots.
