Description
The Air Norton (DP193F) was born as an Airbucker take on the Norton, originally aimed at high-gain bridge duty. What DiMarzio found instead was a neck pickup with real personality – deep, warm tone that stays articulate rather than collapsing into mud, hot output without getting messy, and harmonic content you don’t usually get from a neck humbucker. Behind that is DiMarzio’s patented Air Norton magnetic structure, which cuts down on string pull so notes sustain longer and your pick attack stays expressive and dynamic rather than compressed.
This is the F-spaced version, built for bridge routes with trembucker spacing, finished in black, and wired with 4-conductor cable for coil-splitting or phase options.
In the neck position it’s open and warm with enough push to sit evenly against most bridge humbuckers – pair it with 500K pots if you want more treble bite and harmonic sparkle. Run in the bridge, it settles into a medium-output voice with firm lows and cutting harmonics; try 250K controls for a rounder feel, or a 500K volume with 250K tone to add a bit of fatness up top.
For a balanced two-humbucker set, pair it with an Air Zone, Tone Zone, or Steve’s Special in the bridge, or run it in the bridge alongside an Air Classic in the neck for a medium-output blues-rock character. It also plays well with single-coils like The Cruiser, The Chopper, and Blue Velvet.
