Description
The Air Norton earned its reputation by ignoring the usual neck-pickup tradeoffs. Most warm-sounding humbuckers get thick and lose definition, but DiMarzio’s patented magnetic structure here reduces string pull, which frees up sustain and keeps pick attack expressive rather than mushy. You get oily, vocal warmth with harmonic content that actually cuts through instead of disappearing into the mix.
- Alnico 5 magnet for a smooth, rounded top end
- 4-conductor wiring for coil-splitting and series/parallel setups
- Output: 270mV
- DC resistance: 12.58 kOhm
Suited to solid body and semi-hollow guitars, the Air Norton shines in the neck position — open and warm enough to hold its own against a hot bridge humbucker. Wire it with 500K pots if you want maximum sparkle, harmonics, and presence. It also works as a bridge pickup, delivering medium output with firm bass and biting overtones; pair it there with 250K controls, or a 250K tone with a 500K volume, to keep the treble from getting buried.
For a classic power-and-tone bridge/neck combo, run it alongside a Tone Zone. It also plays nicely with an Air Classic in the middle, or with single-coils like the Cruiser, Chopper, and Blue Velvet, for players building out a more versatile switching scheme.
