Description
DiMarzio took one of its most famous humbucker designs and squeezed it into a soapbar-shaped housing, giving P90-loaded guitars a serious output boost without touching a router. The DP209 is essentially a high-gain humbucker wearing a P90’s clothes, so if your solid body already has P90-style cavities, this pickup drops right in and delivers the aggressive push that made the original Super Distortion an industry benchmark back in the early ’70s.
Under the cover you’ll find 12 adjustable pole pieces and full 4-conductor wiring, so you can wire it for split or parallel humbucking modes to open up quieter, brighter tonal options alongside the full-bore humbucker growl. A slightly reworked coil structure compared to the classic Super Distortion smooths out the top end a touch, most noticeable up around the higher frets, giving it a bit less bite without sacrificing punch.
Like its predecessor, this one’s built primarily for bridge-position duty, though it also works well in the neck slot when paired with clean-to-moderate gain amp settings. Switch it to parallel or split wiring in either position and you’ll get a lower-output, more articulate voice that’s handy for cleaning things up on the fly. Note that it’s only offered in this soapbar format — no dog-ear version exists.
