Description
Eric Johnson is famous for his Strat work, but he’s always kept a humbucker guitar close at hand. When he picked up a fresh 1959 Les Paul reissue, he had one request: make it sound like a Gretsch Country Gentleman. DiMarzio answered with the EJ Custom — a drop-in replacement for standard full-size humbuckers that trades vintage thickness for hollow-body air.
Don’t be fooled by the DC resistance numbers; they read close to a PAF, but the EJ Custom behaves nothing like one. Treble response pushes well past typical vintage humbuckers, landing in single-coil territory, while the bass stays firm enough that the tone never turns thin or brittle. The result is a pickup that stays articulate under heavy gain — chords ring clean, single notes cut through distortion without collapsing into mud, and fingerpicking retains every nuance of touch.
This listing is for the neck position model in a gold cover finish, built as a standard full-size humbucker so it drops straight into existing routing and mounting hardware.
- Exact-fit replacement for standard full-size humbuckers
- Bright, present tone with single-coil-like treble clarity
- Solid bass response keeps the sound full, not thin
- Stays clean and defined even under extreme distortion
- Suited to solid, semi-solid, and hollow-body electric guitars
- Gold cover finish, neck position
Designed for players who want Strat-like clarity and Gretsch-like sparkle without giving up humbucker output — ideal in any position, but especially at home in the neck slot for chord work and articulate lead lines.
