DiMarzio dialed in just the right winding count so this pickup sings and sustains while staying articulate—full and throaty in the midrange, but never bloated, with smooth, creamy top end that never turns harsh.
Rather than chasing vintage mythology—NOS wire, unoriented magnets, butyrate bobbins, unbalanced coils—DiMarzio took a different route. They studied what actually makes those old pickups sound the way they do, then used patented design work to recreate the effect on purpose. Instead of relying on accidental coil imbalance like the originals, the PAF® Master Neck’s coils are intentionally tuned to different frequencies, capturing that same open, vintage-flavored voice while keeping full hum-cancellation intact. The result pays homage to the PAF sound without copying it wire-for-wire—vintage tone, refined.
