Description
The EMG 35CSX takes the classic 35-series humbucker formula and dials back the fizz up top, giving you a bass pickup that’s thick, punchy, and controlled rather than brittle. Each coil pairs ceramic and steel magnets, so you get plenty of warmth and low-mid muscle alongside a top end that stays smooth instead of spiking into harshness — great for players who found other active pickups a bit too aggressive in the treble.
Under the hood is EMG’s X series preamp, which opens up dynamic range and headroom while preserving the string-to-string balance EMG is known for. The included Active Tone Control (VLPF) lets you roll off highs on the fly, functioning much like a passive tone pot but built into an active, noiseless circuit. It’s EMG’s way of splitting the difference between the immediacy of active electronics and the feel of a passive tone sweep.
Heads up on sizing: the 35CSX uses an extended 3.5-inch (89mm) housing. Measure your current pickup or check EMG’s spec sheet before ordering to make sure it’ll drop into your bass without routing.
