Description
Some single-coils get thin and brittle the moment you dig in or crank the gain. The Virtual Vintage Blues isn’t one of them. DiMarzio designed this one to take a hard pick attack and stay composed, then bloom rather than collapse once your amp starts breaking up — the note comes forward instead of getting buried in the mix.
That extra push makes it a natural for a beefy neck tone, but where it really earns its keep is the bridge slot. If your Strat leans bright and thin, or you’re running light-gauge strings, this pickup fills things out without turning muddy. Paired with a warmer-sounding guitar, it turns into a genuinely tough-sounding bridge pickup. Flip that around and it also works well in the neck or middle position alongside a full-size bridge humbucker, giving you a single-coil voice with enough output to hang in that company.
Like the rest of the Virtual Vintage line, hum isn’t part of the deal — DiMarzio’s quiet coil design keeps things dead silent even under gain.
