The EMG 40JV5 takes the sought-after JV voicing and stretches it to cover a five-string neck, dropping the active circuitry into EMG’s Extended Series 40 housing. It’s built for bassists who need to track a low B just as cleanly as a high G, with the active preamp keeping output hot and consistent string to string.
Because it’s an EMG active design, you get low noise, tight low-end definition, and enough headroom to push your amp without the pickup falling apart under aggressive playing. The JV voicing itself leans toward a punchy, articulate character that cuts through a mix rather than getting lost in it — useful whether you’re slapping, fingerstyle, or driving a pick across the strings.
