DiMarzio engineered this pickup from scratch specifically for 7-string guitars, which matters more than it sounds — a standard humbucker dropped onto a 7-string often chokes the low B string or lets it turn boomy and undefined.
To solve that, the Tone Zone 7 uses reduced magnet-pull along with coils recalibrated for the wider string spacing and lower fundamental. The result is a pickup that tracks the B string with the same clarity and punch you’d expect from the top strings, instead of letting it flub out or overpower the mix. You still get the aggressive midrange push and compressed-but-articulate character the Tone Zone name is known for, just properly scaled for extended-range playing.
This version ships with 4-conductor wiring, so you’ve got the flexibility to wire it for series, parallel, or split-coil configurations depending on how your guitar’s switching is set up.
