Fishman built the Fluence Modern HB from the ground up rather than reinventing the coil-wound wheel, and it shows. Because these pickups use a multi-layer printed circuit instead of traditional windings, the noise, hum, and frequency-robbing inductance that even great passive humbuckers suffer from simply aren’t in the equation. What’s left is tone that stays honest from the lowest string to the highest fret.
The neck pickup runs on alnico magnets, giving you the explosive push and musical bloom this set is known for — full chords stay full, solos stay fluid, and there’s a character here you won’t find in a conventional humbucker. Flip a switch (with proper wiring) and Voice 1 delivers a boosted, active alnico tone with articulation and dynamics that outrun typical active pickups, while Voice 2 gives you crisp, clean neck tone without the thin, plinky edge that usually comes with it.
The bridge pickup goes ceramic for cutting attack. Voice 1 is the aggressive, high-output active setting — searing crunch, tight low end, zero mud, plenty of growl. Voice 2 switches to a passive-style ceramic voice: organic, high-output, and built for serious distortion while still keeping Fluence’s dynamic response intact.
