Description
Before there was a whole category of upright bass pickups, there was the BP-100. Fishman’s dual-element piezo-ceramic design sits right on the bridge, picking up string vibration straight from the source instead of relying on a mic to catch the room. The result is a tone that stays close to what the bass actually sounds like under your hands — deep, sustained pizzicato with a fast attack and the kind of string-forward clarity that cuts through on a bandstand without sounding artificial.
Installation is genuinely painless. No drilling, no carving, no permanent changes to your bass — the dual sensing elements clamp onto the bridge and you’re ready to plug in. If you’ve been hesitant to modify an upright for amplification, this is the low-commitment entry point that’s been trusted since Fishman started building pickups.
On its own, the BP-100 will get you gigging fine straight into most bass amps or a DI. But because it’s a piezo, pairing it with an impedance-matching preamp — Fishman’s Pro-EQ Platinum Bass, Pro-EQ II, or B-II — cleans up the top end and lets you dial in the low frequencies without the quack that untamed piezos are known for. Not required, but worth having in your gig bag once you hear the difference.
- Classic bridge-mounted, dual-element piezo-ceramic pickup
- Deep, sustained pizzicato tone with fast articulation and direct string emphasis
- Impedance-matching preamp recommended, not required
- Quick, non-invasive install — no alterations to the instrument
