Description
Before it was a Telecaster, it was a Nocaster — and this Custom Shop set captures exactly why that early single-coil design still gets chased by tone hounds decades later. Rather than reinvent the formula, Fender’s builders stuck close to the ’51 blueprint, pairing Alnico 3 magnets with flush-mount construction so every string comes through even and articulate, without any one note jumping out ahead of the rest.
The Alnico 3 magnets are the real character piece here, favoring a focused low end and pushing midrange forward rather than scooping it out — that’s the source of the classic Tele bark. Enamel-coated magnet wire keeps the wind sounding warm and vintage rather than hi-fi sterile, while the tin-plated copper base plate adds a bit of extra bite and shimmer up top to keep things from turning muddy.
- Fiber bobbin construction with period-correct cloth output wire
- Black cover for the bridge pickup, nickel cover for the neck
- Neck output: 3/4/4 (Bass/Mid/Treble), 7.1k ohms DC resistance, 2.35 henries
- Bridge output: 6/4/4 (Bass/Mid/Treble), 7.3k ohms DC resistance, 3.7 henries
Everything needed to drop this set into a Tele-style body is included — mounting screws, height-adjustment tubing, and a wiring diagram — so it’s a straightforward upgrade for anyone building toward an authentic early-’50s voice.
