Description
Designed alongside Periphery’s Mark Holcomb, the Scarlet neck pickup was born out of a very specific problem: high-gain amp modelers deliver a brutally accurate overdriven tone, but they also expose every bit of mud in a pickup’s response. Holcomb needed a neck humbucker that could keep dense chord voicings intelligible, handle coil splitting cleanly, and stay articulate down in extended/drop tunings on 7-string guitars.
The answer is a ceramic-magnet design with output calibrated specifically for note definition rather than raw push. Instead of piling on gain, Scarlet prioritizes separation – individual notes inside a chord stay distinct even when the amp is running hot, which matters a lot when you’re tracking the kind of layered, angular riffing Holcomb is known for.
Scarlet is the companion to the Alnico 8-loaded Scourge bridge pickup, which handles low-end weight and focused midrange for Holcomb’s heaviest material. Scarlet takes the neck position role that his other signature pickup, Alpha, also fills – built for clarity under gain rather than sheer aggression.
- Ceramic magnet for calibrated, definition-focused output
- 7-string neck position pickup
- Matte black cover finish
- Designed for coil splitting and drop-tuned playing
- Signature design developed with Mark Holcomb (Periphery)
If your amp modeler already nails the tone you want, this pickup is built to let that tone come through without turning your chords into a wall of noise.
