Description
Back in 1978, a customer handed Seymour Duncan a stock P.A.F. and asked for something more: a rewind that would respond better to both natural pinch harmonics and tapped artificial ones. Duncan answered with his signature hot wind, pushed just a bit further than usual. That one-off pickup became the blueprint for the ’78 Model.
Under the hood you’ll find an Alnico 2 magnet paired with the same hot-wound coil specs from the original custom job. That combination is what gives the ’78 its character – a warm, slightly compressed crunch on rhythm parts that cleans up nicely, while leads come through with bite and a shimmering layer of overtones. It’s particularly good at translating tapped licks, letting the harmonic content ring out clearly instead of getting buried.
This version is built in Trembucker width, so it drops straight into guitars routed for wide-spacing humbuckers – no rout modification needed if your instrument already accepts F-spaced pickups.
- Alnico 2 magnet for warm, vocal-like midrange
- Hot-wound coils based on Duncan’s original 1978 custom rewind
- Strong response to tapped and natural harmonics
- Trembucker (F-spaced) sizing for wide pole-piece spacing
- White cover
If your playing leans on dynamic rhythm crunch, articulate tapped runs, and whammy bar theatrics, the ’78 Model gives you a pickup built specifically around that kind of expressive playing.
