Description
Every once in a while, a mistake turns into a signature sound. Back in the golden age of blues rock, one guitarist’s now-famous tone came from a pickup with its magnet accidentally installed backwards — throwing it out of phase with its partner. The Green Magic set bottles that happy accident on purpose.
Play the neck or bridge pickup solo and you get exactly what you’d expect from a well-voiced humbucker set: warm, expressive, classic-era tone with a clean balance between low-end body and top-end clarity. But flip the switch to combine both pickups, and the magic happens. Seymour Duncan reversed the neck pickup’s magnet to intentionally throw it out of phase with the bridge unit, thinning and hollowing the combined output into that ghostly, spanky, single-coil-adjacent voice that made the original accident so irresistible.
It’s the kind of tonal trick that used to require a tech, a soldering iron, and a lot of trial and error. Here it’s built into the set from the factory, wrapped in a nickel cover for classic looks and a touch of high-end roll-off.
- Humbucker pickup set (neck and bridge)
- Nickel cover finish
- Neck pickup magnet reversed for intentional out-of-phase combined tone
- Classic-era voicing — warm and expressive individually, hollow and single-coil-like together
If you want one guitar that covers both vintage humbucker warmth and that eerie, out-of-phase blues rock bite, the Green Magic set gets you there without touching a soldering iron.
