Description
Seven strings means more real estate for mud to hide in, and the Blackouts Phase II set is Seymour Duncan’s answer for keeping that extra low string tight and articulate. Built as a drop-in replacement for EMG 707 pickups, this active 9V humbucker pair carries over the core Blackouts formula from the 6-string versions — a differential preamp running on balanced inputs to strip out hum and noise before it ever hits your amp.
Where these depart from typical active pickups is in the voicing. Instead of the scooped-mid, over-compressed sound a lot of players associate with active humbuckers, Duncan tuned the AHB-1s for more dynamic range and a fuller midrange presence. You still get the percussive attack and note separation active pickups are known for, but with more pick-hand nuance coming through — useful whether you’re riffing in drop tunings, tracking thrash, or just want your palm mutes to actually thump instead of flatten out.
This is a calibrated 7-string neck and bridge set, matched at the factory so the two pickups sit correctly balanced against each other across the board. Seymour Duncan ships the set ready to wire in, including:
- 25K pots
- Stereo jack
- Battery clip
- Mounting hardware
Whether you’re chasing old-school metal snarl, punk aggression, or just want a noiseless active platform that can handle extended range without losing clarity, the Blackouts Phase II set is built for exactly that job.
