Description
The APH-1B is Seymour Duncan’s take on vintage-style PAF tone, wound to a moderate output and loaded with an Alnico 2 magnet instead of the Alnico 5 found in their ’59 model. The result is a rounder, softer-edged voice with a noticeably spongier low end – less punch up front, more bloom and sustain as the note develops.
That character makes it a favorite among classic rock, blues, and jazz players who prefer to shape their crunch at the amp rather than baking distortion into the pickup itself. Because the attack is gentler and the string vibration comes through so naturally, you get expressive cleans and a smooth breakup that cleans up beautifully when you back off the volume – great for slide work too, where that softer touch and long sustain really pay off.
This bridge-position APH-1 comes in the Zebra finish, with one cream and one black adjustable coil, no visible logo on the cover, and a four-conductor hookup cable so you’ve got full flexibility for coil-splitting or series/parallel wiring if your setup allows it.
