Description
The APS-2 takes the same coil recipe as its APS-1 sibling and swaps in equal-length, hand-ground Alnico II rod magnets set flush across the flatwork instead of staggered. That flat magnetic field does more than look tidy under the cover—it evens out the pickup’s response across modern unwound-G string sets and the flatter fingerboard radii most players use today, so bent notes don’t suddenly jump in volume or clarity as they cross over a pole piece.
Wound reverse/reverse-polarity, this one’s built specifically to sit in the middle slot of a three-pickup Strat, cancelling hum in those quacky positions 2 and 4 without you having to think about it. Tonally it stays true to the Alnico II family: soft, vintage-leaning compression that breaks up sooner than an Alnico 5 pickup like the SSL-2, with a rounder top end and a slightly compressed midrange that flatters clean rhythm work and lets overdriven leads bloom rather than bite.
Good territory for this pickup:
- Surf and rockabilly twang
- Country chicken-pickin’ and pop rhythm tones
- Blues and classic rock leads that want to sing, not shred
- Ska and reggae skank where clarity and low output matter
Ships wired up and ready to install, with waxed cloth hookup lead and the vintage-correct keyed bottom plate for a proper fit against your pickguard.
