Description
The Duckbucker is Seymour Duncan’s answer for players who love that glassy, nasal Strat bridge tone but can’t stand fighting 60-cycle hum on every gig. Built on the same split-blade platform as the Vintage Rails, the SDBR-1B drops in as a direct single-coil-size replacement while running as a true humbucker under the hood.
Six fully adjustable pole pieces let you dial in string-to-string balance, and the split blade design keeps output moderate and vintage-correct rather than hot and compressed. You get the warm, slightly scooped voice and that unmistakable Strat “quack” on the in-between pickup positions, minus the buzz that usually comes with single-coils near dimmers, monitors, or fluorescent lights.
Unlike the Vintage Rails, the mini pole pieces here respond more like a traditional pickup when you bend strings, so pitch and output stay consistent instead of drifting off the pole piece. It ships with four-conductor wiring, giving you the flexibility to wire it as a standard humbucker, split it for single-coil sounds, or set up series/parallel switching if your build calls for it.
Genres this pickup was practically made for:
- Country and Telecaster-style twang players who still want a Strat body
- Surf and rockabilly leads that need clarity and snap
- Blues and classic rock rhythm/lead tones
- Pop and ska chime without the noise floor
The SDBR-1B covers bridge duty; there’s a matching SDBR-1N for neck/middle, and it also anchors a full noiseless Strat set alongside the SJBJ-1B JB Jr. and SL59-1N Little ’59.
